Youth Chamber Choir “Vecrīga”
The youth chamber choir “Vecrīga” was founded in 1983. Since 2006, the choir’s conductor and artistic director has been Normunds Ķirsis, with choirmasters Santa Šillere and Mariss Daniels Ķirsis also part of the creative team. The choir includes both students and university graduates, many of whom have continued their professional careers in music. The repertoire is extensive — works by Latvian composers, world choral music from various eras and styles, as well as popular and jazz genres. The choir regularly participates in competitions and festivals in Latvia and abroad, has been an integral part of the Latvian Song Festival movement since 1985, and has earned recognition in international competitions, including 3rd place at the 2019 “Lauluragin” International Choir and Ensemble Competition in Estonia. The choir also took part in the concert production of the rock opera “Lāčplēsis” in Lielvārde in 2017. Since February 2025, the choir has been based at the “Imanta” Cultural Centre of the Pārdaugava Cultural Association.
