Folklore Group “Vilki”
The folklore group “Vilki” began its activity in 1992, but its roots trace back to the Engure folklore group named after J. Vācietis, founded in 1980. The ensemble’s goal is to collect, study, and popularize the worldview of Latvian soldiers from ancient times to the present. Its repertoire includes songs, music, and rituals of Latvian soldiers from various periods, with many First and Second World War and national partisan songs recorded directly from their participants, supplemented by collected Latvian folk music materials. Members also archive storytellers’ and soldiers’ accounts in audio and video formats. Through concerts and lecture‑performances in educational institutions across Latvia, “Vilki” promotes education and patriotism and regularly participates in international festivals abroad.
