Folk Applied Arts Studio “Zīle”
The folk applied arts studio “Zīle” was founded in 1969, and on 3 November 1980 it was granted an honorary title. The studio’s mission is to refine blacksmithing skills, learn traditional folk ornamentation, and pass on folklore knowledge to future generations. Its members represent a wide variety of professions, and one does not need to be a metalworking professional to create works in different techniques. Studio participants create items and jewellery from black and coloured metal, preserving elements of ethnography and classical style while also encouraging new creative work. The pieces they create are displayed in exhibitions, events, and competitions, where they are evaluated by both visitors and juries, and visitors are given the opportunity to try blacksmithing themselves.
